WCU #48: Neptune: the Forgotten Patek Philippe Sports Watch

Patek Philippe Neptune

Launched in the 1990s, the Patek Philippe Neptune signalled the beginning of a new era of sports watches for this iconic Swiss brand. In today’s episode, I’d like to put the spotlight back onto this forgotten yet important luxury watch.

Back in the mid-1990s, Patek Philippe was facing the 20th anniversary of the Nautilus — its only sports watch at the time. In response to the need for a new watch in this category, the Aquanaut was launched in 1997 but not before the brand had tested the water with the Patek Philippe Neptune.

In this podcast, I would like to take a look at the Neptune in all its iterations, its value to horology today and the strange series of events which led to my discovery of the model.
