WCU #47: Ending the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711: A Wise Choice

Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711

The ref. 5711 Patek Philippe Nautilus has been discontinued. Let’s discuss why, for Patek Philippe, such a choice makes perfect sense.

The Patek Philippe Nautilus, with the fame and popularity of this Genevan brand, has risen to be a real star of Patek Philippe’s modern catalogue. Regularly selling for twice its regular retail price, there was very little suspicion that Patek Philippe would choose to discontinue the model with not announcement of a direct replacement.

In today’s podcast, I would like to discuss why discontinuing such a successful watch actually made extremely good business sense for Patek Philippe in the long run. In truth, the Nautilus is a very different product to the rest of the Patek Philippe range and perhaps has no place as the leading product.
