In today’s episode of Watch Chronicler Podcast, I would like to present what I believe to be possibly the most important watch of all time. Join me on a journey through the story of the incredible Patek Philippe Calatrava — a watch which changed everything.
When we think of a dress watch today, I can guarantee that most of think of something very close to the Patek Philippe Calatrava. First released in 1932 to save an indebted and antiquated brand, the Patek Philippe Calatrava revolutionised the form which we now associate with the watch. It introduced the principle that a luxury watch doesn’t need to be overcomplicated: beautiful design & execution with functionality were enough. These very principles shaped the inimitable Rolex Datejust. Similarly, the Calatrava showed the importance of serial production in the luxury industry — perhaps the most important feature of today’s industry.
Follow the story of this watch in this week’s podcast and find out whether it is, indeed, the most important watch ever made.
